Living Libraries on Soho Radio for Libraries Week
To celebrate Libraries Week 2020 (5th-10th October), we are excited to announce three shows on Soho Radio, all about public libraries.
On Monday 5th October, Wednesday 7th October, and Friday 9th October, from 9am-10am, you can tune into the Soho Radio Culture channel to hear Sarah Pyke and Shelley Trower talk about libraries and present the Living Libraries audio documentary, soundscapes, and the oral history interviews themselves. From the hushed bookish libraries of the past to the multifarious and often noisy activities of nowadays, from book groups to singing, lego clubs to activism, and to our dreams for the future of libraries as a space of imagination and possibility…
9am-10am BST, Monday 5th October 2020 – An hour of library talk. Features oral history interviews and soundscape pieces from the project, plus follow-up chats with Sue Williamson (Arts Council England’s Director for Libraries) and Luke Burton (Service Manager for Newcastle Libraries and Community Hubs).
9am-10am BST, Wednesday 7th October 2020 – Featuring the Living Libraries audio documentary, along with leisurely extracts from the project’s oral history interviews. Hear from Jayne Cardew, Senior Library and Information Assistant at Falmouth Library, among others.
9am-10am BST, Friday 9th October 2020 – For the third programme, Shelley delves into a local library in South London, Upper Norwood Library, exploring its soundscapes and talking about library ventures including the Library of Things. Features bonus interviews with Galina Rin (Events & Tech Coordinator) and Joe Duggan (Library of Things Community Activator).
